Hi Everyone!

Tonight I grooved my friends 2004 Ford Escape. On my trip home before the groove I recorded some information:

Short fuel trim 0 to 5
Long fuel trim 0 to 5
Throttle Position voltage at 55mph 1.4 to 1.5volts

Checked exhaust temps, but after vehicle had cooled down - skewed values.

Reset computer, capped off PCV port at back of intake plenum - largest port of all.

Throttle body was definitely aluminum, IAC passage does not interfere at all, as passage directs idle air flow completely around TB plate completely. Groove went well, used large bit, no leaks at all.

Started and ran engine at idle:

Short fuel trim -5 to 0
Long fuel trim - stayed at 0 for long period, beginning to drop negative.
Trottle position voltage at 55mph - 1.2 to 1.3 volts Down from 1.4 to 1.5

Before the groove, the exhaust smelled rich. After the groove, the exhaust smells better - this has become a habit for me untill I access an 5 gas analyser.

This Escape ran well before the groove - 21 to 22 mpg. The owner would like to see 25 to 27. I know the throttle response has improved - I will deliver the vehicle tomorrow.

By the way, this vehicle has 104,225 miles an is driven long distant frequently. Hopefully he'll be a good testimonial.

Update - -

I will be filling in and re-grooving the Escape. Per Ron's suggestion, I will change the bit angle and dig deeper.

My friend likes the increase in power - his wife and daughter need to adjust though, if you know what I mean. Mileage has not increased but hopefully the re-groove will change that!
